War Breaker

War Breaker surprisingly was one of the few books that I enjoyed in the beginning all up to the part when the eldest daughter goes to the council of the gods or whatever to find her young sister married to the god king, dressed up and put on display. after that point for some reason my interest to finish the novel declined, and I never questioned what happened. Although my friend explained to me in brief the ending of the novel and my answer to it was... "huh" it was interesting, but really the idea of breaths, could have been made into a really cool concept but it went terribly gay with all the colors and stuff. I think the over imaginative imagery trying to explain the scenes is what killed it for me. I really stopped liking that book after the class discussion. honestly its really hard for me to read threw an entire book and tell you that it was good. I have a very biased point of view on fictional novels, I just don't like them, no matter how well there written, or how compelling the story might be, there is no piece of fiction I can say is a good read, and War breaker is just like all the other piece of fictional works, (queer). this is just my opinion/observation.

Anansi Boys

Anansi boys was a really weird book to read, the characters I didn't quite understand. Were they human or not, fat charlie and his brother the spider. What was the purpose of the author naming the characters such names, my understanding of the character fat charlie having a normal life style until his father dies, and then soon after he learns that he has a brother that comes into his life, and tries to take is soon to be wife away from him. What was the point of all of this. in my experience it was really odd, well written, but my question is, why would you write something like that. I mean really! does he not have a life, that he has to be writting absurd novels like the Anansi boys. I think I will stick to comics may be its because there not as imaginative and because I like dull normal things and not weird books like the Anansi boys, I might read his sandman comic, I hear its actually good. theres not much I can say about the book other than the fact that I did not enjoy the boring adventures of Fat Charlie going about trying to put his life back together and don't even get me started on the superpower Charlie had, one of the stupidest things I've ever read. I protest that this book not be in the readings for next semester or when ever you decide to change your reading list.

The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy

One of the the sci fy movies, The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, interesting movie, but the ending sucked big time. I found it amusing in the beginning when arthur is trying to keep his house from being destroyed by workers that claim that the government needs to build a bypass, where his house is, then tells him the plans for this was accessible to him for a very long time, though he was not informed of this. This is also the situation of planet earth, which is the home of the human beings, and the galactic aliens want to destroy planet earth be cause they want to build hyperspace thingy I don't know what hey called it. I think it was funny how the movie revolved around finding the ultimate answer to the ultimate question which was the meaning of life. and the answer was 42. Because really I think when arthur fell in love with the trillion chick, had to do with the fact that everyone has to find love and once they do the meaning of life becomes some what clear to them. I don't know It was an interesting movie. although it was really stupid in my opinion.

Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things/ A Wild Sheep Chase

I gotta say Japanese horror is strange and creepy, and not something that I take an interest in, the Wild Sheep Chase didn't make much sense to me, Plus while reading it, I felt really dulled by the reading, it was a weird story, and i'm afraid I couldn't finish it, I was confused with what had exactly happened. I don't mind the american version of the japanese horror, movies like the grudge, which still was weird I didn't get the first one, but the second one I actually found some what creeped by it. and some of the other horror movies, I can't remember the name, but there not scary or creepy, there kind of humorous, in some strange way. back to a wild sheep chase, I really don't understand what this book was about, just starting out when reading it, talking about the japanese man, who's name i will never know, and his search for love, and finally finding a weird seductive woman. I mean this book pisses me off cause I don't know what the point of all this was. there is a huge difference between american horror and japanese horror. in american horror, theres one main evil entity that is destroyed in the end, in japanese horror, I can't say because I primarily didn't understand it. things are a lot more subtle, some what creepy, but nothing that really engaged me in the reading. there's not much more I can say about this book.

The Golden Compass

the golden compass is a very boring yet interesting book, I had a really hard time reading the book, it was too long for me, so i just listened to the audio book even then i didn't finish it because it was too long. its interesting how everyone says theres a lot of controversy on how the book presents a negative portrayal of religion. Which I think is bullshit, because I think the idea of ridiculing and questioning ones religion is critical in thinking outside the box and looking at the many choices we have, instead of blindly following some ideology, that could very well be false. In my point of view, regardless of what people might say about the book criticizing religion, I think its simply a piece of fantasy work that only sets up the plot for the next two books in the series. Yet I probably will not pick up the next book in the series because the story that revolves around the main character lyra, is very unsatisfying. though I did not finish the book, after reading summaries, in the end of the book where roger dies pisses me off since from the beginning of the book lyra vows to save him, and everything in the plot leads up to Lord Asriel killing roger so he can enter into the new dimension, and this was only due to lyra bringing roger to him. Which I think is ridiculous and a wast of my time. Again I have lost hours of my life on a book that i sure as hell don't give a damn about, hours that I will not get back.
